With full 50-60gr charges of 1F black powder, my Walker levers do not drop , even with full day of shooting. 1F in the big Colts is fun, it probably doesn't make much real difference but it works so I'm sticking with it.Well I think I got an easy quick fix that takes 0 skill and ends in a perfect fit. Here it is. #2.Drill 5/32 hole completely through center of arbor housing. #3.Put release agent on arbor ,and everywhere on outside of barrel that could possibly get over flow compound on it.It is nice and small and reasonably easy to make. The pattern is drawn on 1" squares. The area above the "dot-dash" to the "dash-dash" can be used in one of two ways. 1) folded under and sewn or 2) separate piece from thinner leather and folded as an edging as can be seen in the first photo.

Measuring by weight is more precise, but bringing a powder scale to the range os a pain, and bringing one hunting seems ridiculous. While a gram of water will weigh a gram on a scale,,,, black powder is not the same.The old standard for 12 gauge full choke was .040" constriction. Modern guns with modern loads really don't need that much constriction but with muzzleloaders we still are duplicating the old loadings. So the recess for a full choke 12 is .020" deep, which of course enlarges the bore diameter by the required .040".1/4" is equal to 6.350 mm. 6.5mm is equal to .2559" but there is no standard 6.5 mm thread. 6.0 mm is equal to .236 inches so it would be undersize in a 1/4-28 hole. Dixie gunworks offers some nipples with oversize threads for the 1/4-28 (.250-28) thread. Among them is a .255, .260, .265 and .270 diameter thread.

I know the Tennessee Rifle is a double wedge setup and the Kentucky is a pinned barrel.

When the shot leaves the muzzle it will open the pattern at very close range. The shot will most likely be damaged to add to poor shooting. Even in a smooth bore getting a good pattern can be a difficult. Leading the rifled barrel is a problem, and cleaning it out is a real chore.

I bought a barrel with a factory drum that was sloppy. I went to hardware store, bought a larger tap and matching drill bit, and just drilled the old threads out with an electric drill, going slowly. Then tapped to new size. Came out fine. Cost about $12 and I still have the tools.
